Teachers In Abia Biafraland Go On Strike As The State Government Fails To Pay Them Salaries Since November 2017

Public school teachers in present Abia State comprising Aba Province, Umuahia Province, etc, have embarked on strike over six months salary arrears owed them by the state government. The strike led to shutdown of all government-owned primary and secondary schools in Abia, which were supposed to have resumed on Monday, for the third term academic session.

Some teachers who spoke with newsmen disclosed that secondary school teachers in the state received last salaries in November 2017. My colleagues in the primary schools got theirs last in January.

Our leadership is the problem. They’re showing the government that Abia NUT is a toothless bulldog,” a teacher said. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state, Chizobam Akparanta, said the union is meeting with the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, on how to resolve the backlog of salaries owed.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is known for spending heavily on clampdowns of IPOB members in all the Aba, Umuahia, and other Provinces and his collaboration with the Nigeria Army in killing over a  thousand of Biafran youths in Aba, Umuahia and the subsequent kidnapping of Nnamdi Kanu and his parents.

Nigeria security agents have not seized in their forceful extortion and harassment of Biafrans living in Abia State.

Supported by the murderous State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu,  recently, the extortion is at alarming rate, to the extent that the Army, Police and other Armed security men within Aba Province Biafraland had made it mandatory to extort, intimidate, torture, and most times kill Biafrans in Biafranland especially motorists in Aba Province who refused to be extorted.

While Nigerian Navy is extorting at Umuikaa junction, the Army are extorting along Port-Harcourt express road, Umuahia Tower junction with their civilian boys who collect money from the motorists for the Army officers. The extortion is ongoing in other major cities in various Provinces of the present-day Abia State, while the Governor look the other way.
